Pixel-perfect depth sorting using a depth buffer in 2.5D

The video below shows how far 2.5D can go if you have a depth buffer and normal map for your objects. It is a very, very neat technique:

This looks really great! I never guessed that 2d mixed with 3d could work so well, and the light effect is just perfect for the finishing touch! Too bad though that of course on the sprite there is no effect with the light and the volume of the character, so it won't work well with bigger sprites I assume.
